History of Typography Timeline

Timeline highlighting the history of typography created in the form of a passport. Created in Adobe InDesign and Illustrator.

Objective: Explore the history of typography through creating a History of Typography timeline featuring eight significant events. The piece should be original and innovative – not your typical timeline. Be sure to include dates, designers, or typeface classifications within descriptions. Project should demonstrate prowess in ability to set type and communicate findings in a legible and instructional manner.

Response: For this project, I explored a unique approach to the timeline by creating a passport booklet that takes readers on an enthralling journey through the history of typography. I researched and included information about a variety of different influential moments in the history of typography, such as the groundbreaking advent of the printing press and the fascinating development of Roman type. Within the passport booklet, each page serves as an artistic tribute, reminiscent of rustic maps, carefully designed to showcase not only the featured typeface or category of typeface in discussion but also the corresponding geographical origin and approximate date of the pivotal innovation. Every drop cap on each page is intricately crafted in the specific typeface being explored, further enhancing the visual experience. Also featured is a fun fact on every odd page, adding to the intrigue of the timeline and ensuring that the experience is enjoyable to everyone to engages with the timeline.
