Objective: Choose an existing company and design a new logo for the brand.

 

Response: I chose to work with Buttercream Bakery is a local bakery located in downtown Waukesha, Wisconsin. They offer a wide selection of desserts, including cakes, cookies, breads, tamales, and more. I chose to work with this logo because I felt like it could benefit from an enhancement. Buttercream Bakery currently portrays its business with a cartoon cow and slab serif typeface. I felt as though the logo lacked versatility, timelessness, and overall simplicity. The design is rather complex and would be quite difficult to use in any situation aside from their window decal display. In my design process, I wanted to maintain the upbeat feel of the bakery, but I felt as though a classier logo may bring the business a more professional connotation. I sketched a plethora of designs and ended up favoring a sketch of a cupcake utilizing negative space and originality. Utilizing a very minimalistic concept, I was able to come up with a finalized product as displayed. The logo that I designed maintains a much simpler feel, which will, in turn, preserve its versatility and effectiveness throughout the years.
